Steve Wanna
Steve Wanna is a composer and researcher who explores a wide range of compositional and research interests. He started his music studies shortly after immigrating to the United States from Lebanon. After completing his doctoral studies at the University of Maryland (DMA, composition), he spent a year in Paris at the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX) studio. He has written for a wide variety of mediums including traditional instruments, electroacoustic music and music for mixed media and interactive electronics. His recent scores are increasingly more graphic and/or verbal in nature and present performers with new and unusual ways of approaching, thinking about and exploring performance possibilities. His music has been performed in the United States and Europe.
As a scholar Dr. Wanna has worked with the recent music of such composers as Agostino Di Scipio, Iannis Xenakis, Earl Brown, Jean-Claude Risset, among others. He has published a review/analysis of Agostino Di Scipio’s Ecosystemic Works in Computer Music Journal (2006) and an article detailing his own recent works was presented at the Aspen Composers’ Conference 2007 and published in the conference proceedings.
Steve Wanna currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
